The Dying Swan

by Hea

Enter
stage left,
it's never right,
the house sits
eagerly on
the edge
of its
sticky worn seats.
"Costumes"
yells the instructor
my mind
stomps it's
feet with a why bother!
More than ready
to abandon
this leather faced sack,
a weary traveler
saddled taught,
who's back riddles
it's own burden
in 28 tattoos,
drawn by crayon,
markers and a bubble blowing pen.
My trusty jeans
and t-shirt,
popsicle stained
given flair,
reveals hidden truths
In the all too roomy
leotard i wear.
Popping a squat
I scour my bag
nothin' but my pointes,
reaking spoiled sweat.
Grabbing with haste,
noting their aging despair,
not bad , i tell them
all things considered,
hardly holding the pale
that once shined
with my spit,
now hidden in
an archaic dinge.
My tights
must be on break,
lot's to tuck,
under battle torn toes ,
I tell them to huddle,
bind and crammed in
my one size
fits all
pair of shoes.
I criss and I cross,
limp ribbons whining
both of us frayed
round the edges.
Stretching and extending,
rotation down pat,
I take to the bar
not sure who's
looking back,
better to stand
in the unaware.
I curse the clapping
and it's uncalled for racket,
just give me the cello,
let my Saint-Saens begin.
positions,
pirouettes and
of course grand plies,
a story well versed yet
utters no words,
the horizon calls,
though I've no
space to fly,
my feathered arms
faint in their waving,
starting to quiver,
tortured and tormented,
I allow the descent,
one last arc perfected,
one of so many times.
Stilled strings
announce the
quick of my pulse,
the panting slows,
the audience
blanketed in hush.
It's applause
muffled,
as is my own,
the shows over,
exit
stage left.

The Voice I hear

by LittleLizzie

still brings me fear.
Will his echo ever disappear?
The hands I feel still bring me despair.
Will his traces ever go away from there?
The face I see chased away my happy.
Will his face ever be not so scary?
It's a trap in my mind I see everytime I close my eyes.
I wonder if he feels remorse taking the life away from a little girl?
I wonder if he lays awake at night haunted by reliving his murder scene?
I wonder if he too has ever fallen to his knees being unable to breathe as he rewatches the light he stole, fade from my eyes? Does he lose color hearing my name the way I do when I hear his? Does he avoid certain places that take him back to his stupid game? Does he lay awake rehearing my scream like I do with every dream? Does his heart stop at the mention of a basement? Does he look for every exit too… just incase I might be in the room?
Does he care that I still remember what happened in that December? Does he think I was still too young and so I should forget?
My being grew as I stayed put winging my way through life in hopes to not make another mistake. Was it really his sin or just a twisted lesson? Still naive, why did you do this to me Papa Steve?
He's the shadow that comes to feed whenever my brain replays that time. I do what Google says to do in order to chase it away but my efforts only lengthen his stay.
He's the memory who lives on each time I zone out into space. I long for the day I don't see his face.

Am I overreacting? Am I wrong for wanting to seek clarity in the midst of this insanity?

If I told him I think I learned my lesson will this hell I'm in be washed away?
If I told him that I forgive him, will he finally be scrubbed off of my skin?

The biggest wall I face, how the hell do I forgive him for what he did? How do I forgive him for all the nights I couldn't sleep!? How do I forgive him for who he took away from me?
I've taken the medicine and then more and again more and still this little girl is left bleeding and sore. How do I forgive him for each pill that slides down my throat? I was his puppet, almost turned into his sex goat.
These are a few of the thoughts that I keep to myself so I don't feel like a bother to anyone else. This living nightmare I tiptoe around so no one has to see me drown.
The months of february-june are the most confusing for me. I can't remember those months in third grade. What happened to me to forget that but remember everything else? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Get There First

by Heather Rae

You find me
back splat
to your door
no more
just dropping by.
I can taste
the giddy laugh
riding past
my perfectly timed
pout.
You took your eyes
off the ball
and now
struck dumb
with my table side
landing hard
in your lap.
It doesn’t deter,
rather scurries you
to answer ,
“Don’t hang up!”
sent in
a panicked hush,
barely enough
weight to be
words
still tickle,
all the right
places.
I grab
Your attention,
draw you
In circles,
pulling us both
through each
cresting wave.
My burden
falling with you
knowing no fight
against my straddle.
Pinned down
and no way out
but maybe up.
Sweat lacing
my forehead
in this last leg,
you bringing up
the rear,
to pitch me past
the finish line,
Looks like I
got here first.

Find Me

by Heather Rae

How fast
a word, a look,
a Something ,
meant to hold
almost nothing,
though no one tapped
on my shoulder,
all Grow fat ,
feasting on
a worn out 45,
hands, mine ,
and others,
futile
at slamming silence
into the ears.
Find me.
Riding the weathered
saddle of my fears,
my broken, rusty plow
wakens the blisters
cuz I gotta get OUT,
shatter the loud
reflection of those
Nothings , who,
just as their ancestors,
took root in the crook
Of my desert
and now thrives on my neglect.
Find me.
Clawing through dry earth,
avoiding heavy boots
landing on every side,
trapesing through the blood
cracking
from tired fingernails,
no longer able
to hold the screaming
back from below,
where the should have been
a Nothing , bore a beast.
Are you even seeking us?
Or do you halt
even the thought
Of yet again,
taking this
trodden path?
Find me
As my crying
Stains the face
of the mind
going mad,
frantic scribbling
of black crayoned circles
winding around
and trapping us
out of the knowing
of how to take the reigns
or where they be
Find them,
Find me.

Tucking

by Michelle Goulevitch

He walks around naked with his thing hanging out,
I laugh like any little girl would.
I don’t know I’m in danger, I don’t think to shout.

He dances and prances;
and puts on a show.
I continue to giggle,
without age or experience to know.

This is one of the things he does
to groom me,
to turn me into his little sex toy.
He is naked around me
as much as he can be;
of course a five year girl will laugh
at the rude parts of a boy!

“Look, I’m a girl!”

He turns away and tucks it between his legs;
then proceeds to put on the show.
He struts up and down, he looks like a girl now.
Where on Earth did it actually go?

I laugh and I laugh at this silly man;
and he seems to find it pretty funny as well.
Things progressed fast from this stage,
to complete and utter fucking hell.

The Bath

by Michelle Goulevitch

As part of my early grooming,
Nightman would try to watch me bathe.
He would enter the bathroom for a ‘reason’,
the most common was needing to shave.

I remember the disgusting look in his eyes,
I could see his face in the mirror.
This memory has been galvanized,
it could not be any clearer.

From this stage, he wasted no time,
it developed quite rapidly.
Soon, Nightman had me taking some of my baths,
with just him and me.

He gets me naked and turns off the lights.
I am anxious and filled with adrenaline.
He then lights some candles (to add to the mood);
and proceeds to coax me in.

He treats me like his lover;
like we are on a romantic date.
I’m only a six years old and
these are experiences I don’t know how to translate.

Some of the phrases he’d been using,
had me worried for my mother’s life.
He would tell me that he loved me,
but he said it like I was his wife.

“I love you so much”.

He said that it would kill her,
if she knew about ‘him and me’.
The way he speaks is confusing;
at that age I took what he said quite literally.

When he says this to me I am scared,
I feel a sharp intake of my breath.
I was programmed by him to believe,
that my telling her would result in her death.

Seven years of abuse it took me,
to finally find my voice.
Decades later I am finding it again,
CPTSD gives me no choice.

Round Two

by Michelle Goulevitch

We move overseas
for some months, about three.
Nightman stays behind,
so for a time I am free.

We return to New Zealand,
he picks up where he left off.
I’m back in his clutches,
I feel helpless and lost.

This time around
he has his own place;
but he is always at ours
with that creepy look on his face.

During the days
I do my best to be small.
I am aware of him stalking me
and he makes my skin crawl.

I’m in avoidance mode now,
anxiety and fear are what I recall.
By now I know it’s not enough
to just pretend to be small.

As much as I can,
I try to stay out of his way.
I go outside when he is here,
where I feel safer to play.

The days are bad enough
but the nights are now worse.
I just can’t escape him,
it feels like a curse.

He puts my brother to bed
as soon as he can.
Then his attention is on me,
FUCK YOU, you fucking creep, Nightman.

I am now 10 years old
and have become very aware,
of just how bad it feels
when Nightman is here.

It Buzzes

by Michelle Goulevitch

I’m aged about six
and I’m up way too late.
I’m placed on the couch
and instructed to wait.

Nightman is now naked
and shows me more porn.
I’m being groomed
for my role as his whore.

We watch the blue movies
like regular TV.
‘Deep Throat’ was his favorite,
this one really scares me.

My younger brother
is in bed for the night.
I’m now alone with Nightman,
no escape from this plight.

He speaks in hushed tones,
he has a surprise for me!
I am excited and wondering
what it might be.

I’ve never seen such a thing,
I don’t know what he hands me.
It looks like a banana
and it buzzes like a bee.

He takes the device
and uses it on me down there.
He wants me to do it myself
so he can sit back and stare.

I am shy and confused
and I don’t understand.
What is this thing?
I don’t want it in my hand.

It feels weird and warm,
I say I need to go pee.
It became a regular activity
for him to use this on me.

Blue Satin

by Michelle Goulevitch

Nightman lives with me now
with access untold.
He gives me a secret gift
I’m about seven years old.

It’s a short satin nighty,
the side has a split.
Blue with white lace,
it’s a perfect fit.

He wakes me and makes me
put the blue satin on.
I don’t know what’s ‘sexy’
I don’t know that it’s wrong.

He watches me wearing it,
taking photos of me in blue.
By this age I’m now
performing fellatio too.

Once the white stuff comes out
I’m allowed to get dressed.
Back in my regular pyjamas
I can finally go rest.

Kissing

by Michelle Goulevitch

What is this?
I don’t understand.
His tongue’s in my mouth
Of course, it’s Nightman.

Pucker up
Suck it up

I’m aged about six,
hes in his 20’s and in a rock band.
His tongue’s in my mouth,
I just don’t understand.

Pucker up
Suck it up

These kisses are disgusting,
unlike any I’ve had before.
They are slimy and wet
and fear fills me to my core.

Pucker up
Suck it up

He utters things to me
that you’d share with your spouse.
He whispers he loves me
and I’m as quiet as a mouse.

Pucker up
Suck it up

Confusion in my brain,
I go limp and fall back.
He invades my mouth again.
If I were made of glass, I’d crack.
