Sleep
tapping it's toe
but not a moment
too soon,
there's no point
in quibbling.
It's mouth
always agape,
watchmen
at the ready,
Stoic
at my precarious
approach,
yet
they would drink
pinkies up
just the same.
The sandman
tugging my
nightshirt
with an
accusatory tone,
I leave the bait
and take my seat
dropping my bags
heavy with pages
of the day's
scribbles.
Nothing
and everything
waltzing
to a clever beat
i can hardly
hold their glove,
twirling me
and others
to seep
through walls
dripping with
hues still tacky
from my
last ride.
I cringe at
each moment
stolen, once
neatly tucked
in the thieves
threadbare sack,
now baring their teeth.
Tiny forbidden
wimpers
stagger from my throat,
fall at the feet
of now graying
hair beasts.
Metal buckles
play a dissonant
ching in my ears,
trying not
to be snagged
by late zips,
that always
get me anyways.
Children march
with different
sized shoes,
still listen hard
to stay in line.
Digits that pinch
and poke,
will soon roll
the red carpet
some with my blood
drawn through
their veins
others have to knock
but enter
the same.
Throwing me
over it's shoulder,
night carries me out
plunge through
the surface
no air
to be claimed
fear wraps it's way up
feet, waist, then
wrenching my neck
kicking and clawing
to reach
sun dried land
note to self
don't close your eyes.
