The Void

by Trinity Rayne

Have you felt emptiness when you saw the dark gaping hole
Have you felt grief hit you and fill up your soul
There it was up there on the ultrasound screen
Before you unfolding was a heartbreaking scene
There it was what a tragic waste
The dream to be parents was so close you could almost taste
There it was staring back at you an empty sac
There was no life in it only pitch black
There it was in your view in plain sight
The one you both loved but never met had lost the fight
This was a test put on your marriage
Sometimes it's the ugly reality of miscarriage
There it was in that moment hope was destroyed
There it was the dreaded void
A few months later another baby was bred
But it can never replace the one you had that was dead
Even though seeing that one was different from the last
It could never erase the image of the past
It was hard to enjoy and revel in the new life that was to come
It was easier to feel scared and glum
It's difficult to get past feeling paranoid
Once you see and witness the void
But eventually after the void there's a beautiful rainbow with a pot of gold
New life around the corner waiting for you to hold
The void will always be there but you both have an angel looking down up above
New life is near so treasure it dear with your love

I'm sorry if this poem triggers anyone it's one I decided to write on my experience with a miscarriage years ago I know it's gloomy and kind of gruesome but I just wanted everyone who has experienced one to know they aren't alone and it's ok to grieve as long as you need to there's not a day that goes by that I don't wonder about what might have been but there's also hope after a loss and as devastating as it is there's always something beautiful on the horizon

Out of Reach

by Trinity Rayne

It would seem the closure I was seeking from you is out of reach
You tell me to take responsibility for my life but it is you who should practice what they preach
You’ve hammered pieces of my heart down to smash one each
Your empty promises became breach
My closure is just out of range
But I shouldn’t have been surprised since it was nothing strange
You tell me to get over it but it’s you who should change
You’re sick and diseased as an animal with mange
All you had to do was tell the truth and give me what I sought and admit the pain you’ve brought
You swallowed your half ass apologies you fought and you have no remorse like I thought
Control and money was all you got but I won’t be bought
I won’t be silent anymore you and your lies have been caught so look at all the damage you’ve wrought
I thought I was close to the peace I needed from you but it slipped away
It’s out of reach I’m afraid to say
We can’t try again another day even though there were still more things I needed to convey
You are hard to sway but in the end when I find my own closure it’ll be here to stay

Independence

by Trinity Rayne

Independence has always made a difference
It raises self- esteem and confidence
All we want is to have competence
Our freedom is important with prominence
Independence is being away from your pain
It is freeing as weight is lifted from the broken chain
As long as we are free there's more to gain
We hope to have it but not in vain
Even back in the day independence was fought for
We all fight for it going through our own war
We all need it in our lives because we want so much more
With independence there's a whole world to explore
Independence is so beautiful and sometimes rare
You have the right for it so fight for it if you dare
Hold onto it with sweet care
We want independence everywhere
Don't let anyone hold you back and stand in your way even if it's you
Let your own independence shine and your own freedom ring loud and true
Three cheers for the red white and blue
Be independent through and through

Silenced

by Trinity Rayne

I won't be silenced anymore
I will walk and stand tall out the door
I won't be silenced I will speak
I will climb up on my demons' mountain peak
I wont be silenced and treated like your trash
I will be a Phoenix and rise from ash
I won't be silenced and no longer be oppressed
I know my self worth and for that I am blessed

Proud

by Trinity Rayne

We are all survivors and should be proud
Healing from hurt we endured while being around the wrong crowd
When we overcome it all we can move mountains
When we heal we can fly higher than any and all fountains
The beliefs we have about ourselves that are bad are all lies
If we're at rock bottom all we can do now is rise
We all have battle scars inside and out
Be proud you survived them without a doubt
With our pain we all have a story to tell
It may have inspired others to get up after they fell
Be proud of who you are and what you're capable of
Be proud of yourself and show some self love
All we can do is heal and be proud of yourself throughout all of the trauma
Be proud of yourself even if it is hard to escape all of the drama
Those we lost in battle for them the pain was just too much
Be proud you are not like those who hurt you because they ruin those they touch
Let's all be proud and not stay bound to our pain we went through
Let's all be proud of who we see in the mirror and love the view

White

by Trinity Rayne

I try to be good with all my might
I try to shine like teeth so white
I try not to succumb to the dark only bright
I face the darkness and put up a fight
I want to be the white light like in yin and yang
I want to be good like all the angels that ever sang
I want to be there for others and come back to them like a boomerang
I want to be pure and sweet like a horse mustang
I want to be a hero like in someone's book
I want to be as good as food getting ready to cook
I want people to like me and smile at me with one look
I want others to feel better if they're shook
I want to be the white light that guides you on your way
I want to be the white light that will stand by you and stay
I want to be the white light that brightens someone's day
Mark my words though don't mistake my kindness for weakness or i will stray
I want to be a white light for others but also for myself and I
I want to be a white light to myself and others without being labeled the bad guy
I will be a white light for you but not your energy supply
I will be a white light as long as i can until i burn out and die

I Promise

by Trinity Rayne

I promise to you and solemnly swear
No more empty promises that lead only to despair
I promise to you to be good and heal from the outside in
No more beating yourself up if you sometimes lose without a win
I promise to you this promise for the rest of your life
No more suffering with endless stress and strife
I promise to you all of these for the rest of your days
No more negative self talk only praise
I promise to mend your broken soul
I promise to put back all the pieces of you until you're whole
I promise that all this is true
I promise all of these promises every single one to you

New Leaf

by Trinity Rayne

This time will be different I'm turning over a new leaf
It's time I feel and grieve all of my grief
I will attempt to settle any beef
This year im in charge of my feelings I've become the chief
This time I will not shy away I will speak my mind
It's time I have courage I've long since needed to find
I will get over my past when I'm ready and leave it behind
This year my eyes will open even more than the last where I'm not as blind
I've turned over a new leaf
Any negativity and sadness I have will be brief
You no longer need to steal my happiness like some thief
I know who you are and who I am deep down underneath
I am my own queen I kneel down to and bow
I am my own ruler and master now
I've turned over a new leaf somehow
I am done with the bullshit that's my solemn vow

I walk

by Heather Rae

though i long to run
but my soles bare, and
those who know are just as surprised.
boot camp, but i guess
i missed that day.
each piece leaving evidence as i step
i have learned it's necessary,
i need it, the feel, even now,
i hear them,
"do you feel your feet
on the ground?" he asks.
Mostly i think,sometimes.
I have to hold my breath but you know,
what are friends for?
i find myself keep getting lost,
hurry along now,must catch up,
i wish I could see the words
coming out of my mouth
like the bubbles.
then i would be certain
except for when you know better,
even whispers need invisibility
i look down,
my knuckles wearing white.so soon?
the blanket no longer fits
and time has not been kind,
stains are not the only clues.
i smirk at the irony. “security”
they call it, anything but i say.
Still it will remain clenched
as long as . well nevermind i hold it
just as much as it holds on to me
like keeping track,
at least i wont ever
truly be lost
it knows my beginnings
as will it the ends.
i'm not sure, will i have been
the prey or hunter, moving on.
Day or night , can't decide,
not terribly important, dreams
in any case, or mares.
I march tediously,
but i am resting, sort of,
on fake white leather seats,
each crooked line of its decrepitness,
pinches the backs of my not so
tiny thighs.
but not for long as i return,
finding the road an obnoxiously
steep incline.
Overhead i hear the dark,wooshing.
you would think i'd be smarter
after so many years, not to look up,
guess not.but the jury's still out,
just like the cats, curiosity?
Sayings, still ain't figured them out,
so i give in, focus on
the ghastly scene playing out,
right overhead. So unpredictable,
their flight paths seem random,
and yes it's certain
those pointy beaks will
surely make their mark.
"Onward soldier", he commands.
I forget those beady, watchful eyes,
to smart for their own good (or evil).
i scratch my head,
hoping that my destination,
somehow finds it's escape,
not sure, was i even told where?
Wouldn't be the first time i was left out!
The enemy , an his nasty lot,
just over the hill, they smell,
like what yesterday left behind,
or the spot the cloth missed,
can never be clean enough.
trust me, i've tried.
Seeing them before ieven in view.
i decide now ,time to chance a quick peek,
just to be sure
but over my shoulder shouts come, " eyes straight ahead!"
they're still nearing.
i shouldn't fear,just the usual.
My trusty, yet faded, blue jeans, course
they seem to keep shrinking, but I still
manage squeezin' my thoughts,safely in
specially the wrong ones, gettin' harder to tell
which is which. before it snatches
my feet right out from me.
This other side, it’s more
like upside down, then a descent.
Just a quick catch of breath
before i notice I've been caught.
"Stay focused" he shouts.
"I WAS" I hear inside,
screaming in my ear, looking down ,
dazed and yet, not so confused.
I've learned to look for clues, learn the tricks,
not even a crumb. I just watch the sweat
slowly seeping from here
and there, cooling sores
for not paying attention.
I'm sorry I forgot the welcome mat,it happens,
but you did stop by, before bringing your tidings,
and no never glad
and always leaving with the floor,
full of mud. No one said easy.
but really, quicksand? Ok ,maybe just
heavy muck, symantics
I raise my hand, nobody calls my name
but i still try ,cuz maybe just once.
Not ever missing my hesitation,
his well rehearsed.
"Is there a problem?”
“No sir! …er
I mean Yes Sir" I reply.
Do you think he noticed?
eeny meeny...
there's no time
for games, i snicker cuz isn't it?
"it's a root or a branch Sir."
Maybe a secret admirer heading this way,
but on this side of town?
A foreigner? Hah, not so fast!
i may be young but not born today
i know better than to disobey.you do it,
yes,the It, that i've had and i didn’t sign up for
Enter a distraction, she starts,
hoping to help ease my struggle,
"Once upon a time…”her smiling voice,
genuine though, background noise,
i tune it out, i know the ending.
What's the mission? ah, yes
i remember now. Face the real stranger
though we've met , once too many times before
and he whistles nothing near a happy tune.
Like a pigeon, I try to find my way back,
never forget where you belong,
i don't remember who said it, but i can guess.
Taking a different path , one that grows walls.
I am intentional with each step. I know, i know
i have my orders,"but so do i!"Who said that?
Someone's been taping their shoe,
knowing all along ,i would need a mad dash.
To just miss the slamming drawbridge,
closing me in and them out.
safe and trapped, no difference.
"Keep moving”,I'm told, mostly just
mouthing and motioning.
That's right, I think,
stifle the crying before it's even a thought.
Just a little further and how grateful,
the tic toc is killin' me,
pulling me,practically dead weight,
but it don't show, not when you are
in it for the green.
“Why”,some ask, “you was grown?”
they see a different me in the mirror and
expect more than silence.
I lay there waiting, a swift kick and he says,
“you best be on your feet private!”
The familiar ,lying smile never left,
as i drop my dirty camos, a crumpled pile
and scramble for cover.
Shame on me,twice, at least, probably more.
The shaggy strands do worse
then tickle which is why my feet resist,
not wanting to remember
their place in line. Now they long
to forget , their place to rest.

Lost my no

by Heather Rae

Lost my no,
somewhere between,
tiny uncertain steps,
something not quite
running, more like
a toddle,
from steel blue eyes,
always teetering
the edge,
of taught lips
that trembled
their weight
of the latest perils.
“Don’t you dare tell…”
and
“… make your mom
leave you”,
that soon
find their quarters
with the rest
of the lot,
in a tarnished
bucket of
fraying and faded
ribbons,
waiting their turn,
to loop
beneath dirty chins
that slip through
the fingers
of the mirror’s hands,
the many faces,
salty and wet,
yet dry
to the touch,
the sky touched looks,
full of blur,
hiding the stains
of thriving shame,
shoulders begging
to recall
the scummy walled
tub and
the tight
resolute grip,
holding them under,
unknown voices
full of silence
pushing and shoving
into my ears
water drowning
our own
deafening screams,
yellowing brown bruises
hidden by it’s wake
they’ve learned
not to show,
but the stopper
let’s go
and I damn it’s
crooked smirk
ridden grin!
Throwing the pack
back in place,
it’s haul full
of slab,
each never
known name,
piecing together
the walls
of my sentence
sealing my fate.
“Let me give you a hand”
no need for consent,
grown feet stride
with surety now
still lost my no
but it doesn’t matter how.
